India Ink on Vintage Literary Text

I really love these india ink creations by Bird in the Hand.
The juxtaposition of ink vs. type is really eye catching.
She is quickly becoming one of my favorite FLICKR artists.

LOST Bingo

I don’t watch Lost. I tried, but I think I need to start from Season One because watching episodes out of sequence makes me feel, well, lost.

Anywho, I thought you Lost fans would enjoy, and understand, Lost Bingo.

Hate my new VW dealership, but I still love my VW.

VW has had some of the best advertising throughout the years. Below are a few links to my favorite VW campaigns. And while you're at it, read about what their current ad shop, Deutsch LA, is doing for the brand and the origination of the "Punch Buggy" idea on AdAge.com

Collections

I found this great montage on Flickr this morning. Bird in the Hand started a new art project this year entitled A Collection a Day 2010 where she highlights a grouping of certain items (such as scissors or clothes pins) every day and uploads a picture. Below are some examples of her work.

So I started thinking, what exactly do I collect? Let's see. Besides shoes, extensive skin care products, and the pile of laundry that seems to be "collecting" in the corner of my closet, what do I collect? I do have a heaping pile of magazine clippings that need to go somewhere. Maybe I can use them for a collage or to create some type of mood board. I also collect greeting cards. But as of now, they're sitting in a box on a shelf. Maybe I can put them in a scrapbook. Or (insert Aha! Moment here) start a blog about my greeting cards...

Now the ideas are starting to flow.

Now I'm curious, what do you collect? I'd love to know.

Pink sky at night, sailors' delight.
I'm so appreciative of this gorgeous weather. Keep it coming.

Rainbow Cake

I was at a birthday party this weekend that served this very same rainbow cake. It was delicious! Can anyone tell me where they make these? This cake would be a great for St. Patrick's Day, a kid's birthday, or a same sex wedding : )
Very versatile.

Premature Thoughts on My Engagement Ring

It's that time. That time where all of my friends are getting engaged. I, myself, am far from this stage in my life. Very far. And I've never been one of those girls who dreams about my wedding dress or plans the floral arrangements years in advance. It just never dawned on me. I guess when that time comes, I'll be more apt to read bridal magazines and such, but for now, I'll enjoy my friends engagement parties and weddings from an outside perspective.

However, the talk of engagement rings has got me thinking. Again, I never really thought about what kind of ring I would like. Well, until now. And letting the female race down once again, I didn't know how to refer to what kind of ring I like:

Solitaire? (I thought that was a card game?)
Cushion Cut? (isn't that the little pillow the ring sits on?)
Princess Cut? (this sounds incredibly girlie, pass)
Heart Shaped? (who do you think I am, J Lo?)
Pear Shaped? (Aiden gave one to Carrie on Sex and the City and she hated it. So I probably would to.)
Marquise Cut? (isn't that the sign outside of a theatre? Oh wait, that's marquee.)

The point is, when it comes to diamond engagement rings, I am clueless. I do, however, have an image in my head of what I'd like my future engagement ring to look like. It should be something old fashioned, I thought. After all, I have an undying love for vintage pieces and my grandmother's heirlooms. I love old things. Their intricate nature. The stories behind them. I'd love to get a ring that has been in a guy's family for years.

Coincidentally enough as I was perusing my Google Reader today, I found it. There it was. Just popping up on one of my habitual blogs waiting for me. So now I know what kind of ring I would like and how to refer to it. You know, in case anyone asks.

Logorama

Logorama won the Oscar last night for Best Animated Short Film. And deservedly so. The mini flick intertwines several story lines that all take place in a world filled with corporate and brand logos. Very unique. And actually very funny! I've never really seen anything like this before. And in an industry where we're faced with "legal issues" regarding logos and brands more often than not, I'm curious how they pulled this off. Anyway, it's entertaining. Take a look.

High Buns are the New Side Braids

It could be laziness or the fact that I haven't cut my hair in four months. But I've started wearing my hair in a bun on the top of my head. Like, on the very top of my head. I've seen a few models sporting this look in fashion magazines, but nothing too widespread yet. So I'm calling it now. In the spectrum of hairstyles - high buns are the new side braid. They're fun, quick, and easy.

Thank you Edward Sharpe. Thank you skinny fashion models. And thank you onslaught laziness for teaching me that great hair doesn't always require hours of styling.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Hazel loves her dragon so much that she now uses it as a pillow.
I'm calling it her "Dwagon Piwwow" (in baby/puppy voice).

Pastels with a Hint of Grey

I'm ready for Spring. And who isn't? This bleak, grey winter has gone on for far too long. So in the spirit of Spring, the theme of this blog post is pastels. Beautiful, soft, delicate pastels. And since winter just won't go away, I'm adding a hint of grey to my ideal Spring color scheme.

Sincerely,
Praying for Spring
