Muppets Cover LCD Soundsystem

So maybe I'm missing LCD Soundsystem's last show (or shows, rather) due to the Ticketmaster debacle and ridiculously priced Stub Hub resales, but I can at least enjoy this amazing cover of Dance Yrself Clean by the Muppets. It's hysterical slash pretty awesome!

Banksy in LA

To promote his new Academy Award nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, famous/notorious (depending how you look at it) British graffiti artist, Banksy, has been seen all over LA. Well, sort of. While he has remained ever so slyly under-the-radar, his artwork has been popping up on walls, in alleys and even on billboards around town. His pre-Oscar campaigning is certainly unorthodox compared to the Hollywood stars who are giving press interviews this week, but comes as no-shock to Banksy fans. Many are wondering if he'll actually make an appearance at the Academy Awards this Sunday. And what if his documentary wins? Will someone accept the Oscar on his behalf? Well, the folks of the prestigious Academy have already made it clear that they're denying entrance to anyone claiming to be him. But not necessarily for discriminatory reasons or the fact that a graffiti artist might not be held to the Academy's high standards, but honestly because they won't know if it's really him. What if some Joe-Shmo walked up on stage to accept the award? No one would know the difference! I, for one, hope he does show - clad with a suit, hoodie and monkey mask. I'm sure the paparazzi will be waiting by the gift shop's exit to snap a photo.

Weekend Music

I'm not as crazy about Radiohead as some of my friends, but you cannot deny that Thom Yorke is a musical mastermind. Their new album, King of Limbs, is once again an atmospheric adventure through perfectly blended notes and sounds. I'm liking it so far. I actually think it might be the perfect drug to mellow out with on this warm, sunny Friday afternoon.

Here are some other albums recently released (or that are soon to be released) that I'm loving at the moment.

Tennis - Cape Dory
Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
The Strokes - Angles
The War on Drugs - Future Weather
Cut Copy - Zonoscope
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - Alexander
Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

That should be enough to fill your playlist with some new tunes this weekend. Enjoy!

Old Lucketts Store

Just when I thought I had checked out almost every antique store in Central Virginia, my friend Amy introduced me to Old Lucketts Store in Leesburg, VA. I'm absolutely enamored with the photos on their website and foresee spending way too much money when I decide to take the trek to Northern VA. Guess I should start saving now...

Check out their beautifully designed website and "like" them on Facebook.

Deal Breaker

Want a quick, quirky, hysterical read?
How about a much over due dissection of dating in the modern world?
Well here it is folks. It's called Deal Breaker and it's filled with hilarious classifications of weirdos looking for love. And if you're like me, you can probably relate to a few of these serious dating offenses. Written by Dave Horwitz and Marisa Pinson, it makes fun of the both sexes. Equally fun for all!

Thanks Alice Perry for thinking of me when it comes to ridiculous dating stories.

My Top Super Bowl Picks (Commercial picks, I mean.)

I never met a VW ad that I didn't like. And the Darth Vader Passat ad is no exception. Well done Deutsch LA, well done! Favorite ad of the night, by far!

Besides some of the expected Bud Light ads, overall, I thought that this year's Super Bowl Ads were pretty good. Here are a few choice contenders that I felt were worth noting.

Chrysler: Detroit. Even if you’re not an Eminem fan, you can’t deny that this devout Detroit native was the right man for the job. His song, “Lose Yourself,” set the epic undertones to this moving piece of art. And, yes, I'm calling it art! With a running time of two minutes and its high quality cinematic value, this commercial looked more like a short-length film than an ad. It pays homage to both a great American brand and a great American city as it explores Detroit’s tumultuous past and shares an excitement for the future with the introduction of the Chrysler 200.

Best Buy: Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osborne. You really can't go wrong when you put Ozzy in a commercial. And as for the Biebs... wait, what's a Bieber?

CareerBuilder.com: Chimps. All I have to say is: chimpanzees, suits, and a car sandwich. WIN! These fun-loving apes never get old.

Doritos: Pug. Okay, so there might not be much thinking behind this Doritos spot. But everyone knows if you put a baby or puppy in your ad, your commercial will be adored by all. And if you know me AT ALL, you must realize my weakness for smooshed faces, pudgy cheeks and heavy snorts. Seriously, you could be selling asphalt and if you put a pug in your commercial, I'd probably be out paving our driveways the next day.

Doritos: House Sitting. He brings his friend's dead grandfather back to like with Doritos. Enough said.

Coca-Cola: Border Crossing. During perhaps the loudest spectator sport of the year, Coca-Cola chose to air a simple, dignified spot that tells the story of a complex relationship without using any dialog. For thirty seconds, Coke conveyed a message of “sharing happiness” in almost utter silence. However, I believe that their ingenious thinking speaks volumes. Someone deserves a metal. Or a Coca-Cola.

Audi: Escape Old Luxury. The car ads certainly hit a home run during this year’s Super Bowl. Or should I say, made a touchdown? Either way, Audi’s idea to “Escape the Confines of Old Luxury” seemed ironically fresh. Come on. An ad with a taxidermy Dodo bird, a pack of "hounds" and a Kenny G cameo, how can you forget this one?

House of Harlow

Gilt.com had an amazing special today on Nicole Richie's jewelry line, House of Harlow. If I could choose one style icon to replicate, it would be Nicole. So it's no shock that I absolutely adore her funky, Native American inspired necklaces, bangles and rings. Check out some of these beautiful pieces that are still available on Gilt. I was lucky enough to snatch up a few pieces that are now sold out. But really, you can't go wrong with anything in her line. It's all super cool!

February Birthdays!

Wake up winter wussies. It's the first day of February. And you know what that means. For one, we're one month closer to longer days and warmer weather. Second, today is my birthday! In fact, this whole week is filled with birthdays. Mine, my puppy Hazel's, and most importantly, this blog's. Yes folks, that's right. My blog is turning 3 this week. I remember starting it shortly after my birthday a few years ago and never imagined that 3 years later I would still be continuing to expand, grow and challenge my creativity with this digital space. But here I am. And here you are reading. Many thanks for continuing to follow. Now, let's celebrate!
